About Us

A Bay Area AND Auburn Native are pooling their talents, resources and career experience in a downtown Auburn real estate office.

Joanne “Jo” Barragan and Val Berlin-Douglass are the founders of Barragan Berlin Realtors.Barragan, a third-generation San Francisco native, moved to Auburn in 2000 and has worked in real estate since 2003. She had originally come up to visit a friend and eventually moved up AND married her husband Patrick on her property. We always felt like we belonged up here and hated going back home.Berlin-Douglass traces her family tree back nearly seven generations in Auburn.“I went to Placer High and so did my parents and grandparents,” she said. “I started (in the real estate business) as an ROP student at Household Finance in 1982, right here in Auburn.

Her career includes working as office manager for a commercial real estate company as well as extensive experience in title and escrow. Beyond her real estate experience as a top agent, Barragan brings a background in outside sales, marketing and client service. The two met while serving on various boards and committees that support the community. “We’re bringing our friends, clients and experience in the community together to create a synergy for their Real Estate needs. “In addition to being a Realtor, I will be managing the office,” Val Berlin-Douglass said.  “Jo will manage and head up the sales and marketing team. ”Both enjoy community service. Jo is current 2017-18 President of Gold Country Rotary. Val is a member of Soroptimist Club, a Court Appointed Special Advocate for Placer County youth. When necessary for our home sellers, we can provide services that include staging, landscaping, painting and cleaning — “whatever it takes to get a home sold,” they said.

Jo Barragan’s favorite part of real estate is “bringing buyers and sellers together and creating new lifestyles, relationships and friendships.”“I love giving back to my community,” she said. “The career I’ve chosen affords me the benefit of all that.” Berlin-Douglass agrees. “I love the collaboration between the people we work with, the people we work for and the fact that it is in a community we absolutely love and believe is the best place on the planet to live,” she said.
